Another post from the braggert

So I brag a lot. But, I thought this was pretty cool:

The Human Impact of Sept. 11

As Blawg Review #74 shows, Sept. 11 impacted the law. But beyond the legal implications, there's a human side to Sept. 11, that some law bloggers addressed today. The Law Librarian Blog collects links to a photo archives, a tribute of 2,996 bloggers and personal accounts of survivors. Ann Althouse writes about how, politics aside, our nation remains resilient after September 11, while Nicole Black of Sui Generis expresses hope that our nation will fully recover from tragedy.

It was posted on the law.com blog. It's a pretty big blog--at least for a legal blog...

  • She made you sound so hopeful -- what did you say?

  • Here's what I said (it's on my blog and linked to in the post I quoted--if you follow the link):

    Where Were You?

When I first learned that a plane had flown into one of the Towers, my husband and I were just leaving my 16 week midwife's appointment after having been informed that I might be carrying twins.

We immediately drove home and watched the horror unfold, live on television, as I frantically attempted to reach my sister, who worked in an office located just 2 blocks outside the 14 block perimeter that had been cordoned off by the authorities.

I recalled with dismay the words of a colleague from the Public Defender's Office. She'd informed me that she was never having children since she didn't want to be responsible for bringing anyone else into such a sad and hurtful world. At the time, I'd thought her words to be pessimistic and defeatist, but as I watched the Towers collapse, tears streamed down my face and I wondered if she may have been horribly and prophetically right.

I'm a bit more hopeful today than I was in 2001. But the scars of 9/11 are still painfully evident and like all Americans, I'm haunted by that day. I'm not sure if our collective psyche will ever fully recover. But, I'm hopeful. I'm still hopeful. What other choice is there?
